The Grassalkovich Manor, known also as the Presidential Palace, resembles at the first glance buildings of the Rococo period. The palace serves from the year 1996 as the presidential residence. The Duke Anton Grassalkovic, a lawyer and a chairman of the Hungarian Royal Cabinet, ordered its construction in the year 1760. To the palace belongs also the beautiful Presidential Garden designed in French style, with a fountain and embellished by the statue of the Austrian empress Maria Theresia. An inherent part of the Presidential Garden is also the Presidential Avenue, designed as an ever-increasing array of oaks, each of them planted by heads of state during their official visit of Bratislava.
